The 2015 'Long Tan Day' evening ceremony at Grenfell Cenotaph.

Long Tan Day is upon us again. Grenfell RSL will recognise the Victory in the Pacific, August 15, at the same function in Grenfell on August 18. It was on August 18, 1966, that Australian Forces in Vietnam engaged in their largest single battle of the campaign. During a patrol near the rubber plantation of Long Tan, Australian Forces came into heavy conflict with a far more numerical force. The battle which raged in darkness during a huge thunderstorm saw the enemy forces finally withdraw. The Australian Force lost 18 Australians in the battle and it is this sad loss that we now recognise by functions around the country. More details will be available as the date approaches, also a formal dinner will take place at Fettlers Restaurant following the Cenotaph service. The seating capacity of the function room is set at 50 persons max. Bookings will open with Maurice Simpson 0400 431 001 and Don Forsyth 02 6343 2374  August 4. Vietnam Vets, RSL, RSL Widows, Cadets and citizens who have an interest are invited, meal costs to be paid on the night.
