Lachlan Gibson, Director of Corporate Services, along with GM Glenn Carroll and council’s FFTF advisor, Stephen Sykes, attended a pre-assessment workshop in Sydney earlier this month to obtain further information on the reassessment and take part in discussions with other councils attaining various strategies that could assist councils in submitting successful proposals, along with an array of beneficial advice and guidance.
At the June Council meeting GM, Glenn Carroll, said “ While it is fantastic we are still operating as Weddin Shire Council we are certainly not immune from the reform process. The process is ongoing whereby we will have to embrace change to remain financially sustainable in the future and remain as an independent Council.”
At this stage the proposal must be resubmitted to the Office of Local Govt. by July 15 with Council to be advised of the outcome by September 30. A Council resolution endorsing the revised proposal will be required prior to it’s re-submission. However, at the workshop it was recognised that the July 15 due date will require Councils to conduct extra-ordinary meetings. This being the case, councils could have an extension until July 29 to re-submit.
It was resolved at the June meeting that a workshop be held at 4pm on July 21 to discuss the final proposal, if the due date is deferred. However, if the due date is not deferred, a workshop be held prior to July 15, in accordance with the official due date. Council’s final ‘FFTF’ proposal is to be submitted to the July Council meeting for endorsement if the due date is deferred. If the due date is not deferred an Extra-Ordinary meeting be held prior to July 15 for council’s resolution.
