Junior Rugby has been successfully operating for over twelve years in Grenfell with teams and age groups Under 7’s,9’s,11’s,13’s and 15’s playing in the Southern Inland Rugby Competition.
Those involved over the years have enjoyed the fun and social networks junior rugby offers.
Games are played in a gala/carnival format every second Sunday, with training once a week on Wednesday evenings.
There are usually no rugby commitments during school holidays.
Under 7’s are introduced to rugby with a non tackle two handed touch game to gain the skills of catch and pass before progressing to the tackle format in the U9’s.
Many girls have played in the younger age groups with great success and are very welcome.
A modified full contact game is played in U9’s following the ARU pathway programme with coaches on the field to help facilitate the game.
Then from U11’s upwards the game is expanded as scrum and lineout skills develop with the referee controlling play.
Travel with junior rugby is in the local area; Young, Temora, West Wyalong, Cootamundra, Grenfell with usually a couple of longer trips to Wagga or the southern half of the zone depending on the draw.
All registered players receive a free pair of rugby shorts and socks as well as a Brumbies Rugby card which will gain them entry to all ACT Brumbies Super15 home games in Canberra.
New Registrations are FREE, continuing registrations are $50 and capped at $100 per family, which represents excellent value.
Please provide Medicare number and bring along your childs birth certificate.
Junior Rugby has a strong focus on family fun, with the players enjoying the mateship and comraderie of a team sport along with the benefits of being fit and active.
Whilst the parents enjoy the friendships and social side at games and other functions throughout the year.
Anyone wishing to be involved with coaching, team management etc is more than welcome with suitable accreditation and training a requirement, this is provided via the Smart Rugby and Foundation training courses.
