On 19th February 2015 our local community nursery was the venue for an important meeting to discuss the future of Landcare in our region. Organised by Hannah Troth of Weddin Landcare representatives from member groups of what’s known as LachLandcare met in the grounds of the nursery with Katrina Hodgkinson (our local State member and the Minister for Primary Industries) and Lawrie Dwyer and Tom Gavel from Central West Local Land Services.

It was an excellent opportunity for Weddin Landcare to showcase the nursery and demonstrate what can be achieved with Landcare and other partnership support, and a dedicated volunteer group. LachLandcare was involved in the early stages to support the development of the business plan and governance documents, and the Lachlan Catchment Management Authority provided financial support to develop the seedbank and purchase initial resources.
The Weddin Community Native Nursery concentrates on collecting and propagating native seeds from across the Weddin Shire then making plants available to landholders and town dwellers, leading to the preservation of the species of the Shire and an increase in biodiversity and habitat.
In short both Katrina and Lawrie confirmed in principle support for the future of Landcare and Katrina intimated that the Liberal/National Party Coalition will shortly be announcing a policy on the subject in the lead-up to the State government election.
