The February Mixed Teams Night Tennis Competition got underway on Wednesday, 18 with a very pleasing entry of 9 teams taking part. There is also the possibility of another team will enter.

The first round of the competition saw keen and competitive tennis with players enjoying the social atmosphere in pleasant conditions. The team, Oestrogen Overload proved too strong for The Lone Rangers winning 38 games to 26 after many close games. Goomans Gang were in top form to defeat Johno’s Juggernauts 43 games to 21, while Rollsies Rabble were in devastating form to roll over Steve’s Wonders 44 games to 20.
The ever consistent team of Bogalong and Beyond played too well for Coppsies Floppsies defeating that team 39 games to 25 games. The other team. Bibs and Bobs had the bye.

The Men’s No 2 played Round 3 of their Summer Night Tennis Competition last Tuesday with four of the matches finishing at 4 all. Two pairs won the round winning a total of 19 games each. They were Michael Doyle and Stuart McKellar and Arnold Brown and Charles Harvey. Michael and Stuart commenced the round playing great tennis to win their first two sets 6/2, 5/3, then levelled the last two sets 4/4. Arnold and Charles struggled in their first set to go down 3/5, then found top form to win 5/3, 7/1, 4/4.
The next best players were Steve Bowerman and Murray Mitton, winning a total of 16 games after some very close tennis. They went down in their first two sets 3/5, 3/5, then found form to win 6/2, 4/4. Hugh Moffitt and Jaykob Gavin battled away in their sets to win a total of 15 games for the night. Their sets were a close affair after winning the first 5/3, levelling the next two sets 4 all and going down 2/6.
The other pair taking part, John Walmsley and Graham Edwards won a total of 11 games for the round. Graham was a fill in for Rod Freudenstein.
Round 4 of the Men’s Tennis will be played next Tuesday night, weather permitting.
A reminder to all those people who like to enjoy a great night out that the Tennis Centre’s Annual Quiz Night is fast approaching. The Quiz Night will be held on Thursday, March 5 at the Grenfell Country Club.
The Quiz Night is for tables of eight and already several teams have entered.Teams can be left with Danny Joyce at Aston and Joyce (Westpac Bank) or by phoning 0428 436266.
