Have you collected your Summer Reading Club kit yet?? It’s a good project for the holiday period, there are prizes (revamped this year) to be won, and all those returning reading records are assured of an invitation to the Awards Afternoon Tea featuring another puppet show next May.
For more information contact the library or check out the blog entry at http://www.grenfellpubliclibrary.blogspot.com.au/
This week’s New Materials display is marked by diversity. With the Indian team currently in Australia playing a Test series Sachin Tendulkar’s “Playing It My Way” is a timely addition. Enjoy a little nostalgia - there’s a set of four classic Doris Day movies as well as two new Garfield DVDs and in seasonal vein “Merry Christmas Mr Bean” on DVD and “Christmas Classics: instrumental strings” on CD (would be nice background music for your Christmas dinner !).
There are also three new junior titles and adult novels by Peter Watt, Karly Lane, Wilbur Smith, Patricia Cornwell and new Australian author Brooke Davis.
The library has just received two boxes of 2015 diaries from Legal Aid NSW.
They have an attractive cover, lots of space for notes and many very useful snippets of advice and information in ‘Did You Know?’ boxes. AND they are free ... Call in at the library to collect yours and maybe some extra to give away to people you know.
Recently the library received an email from ex-resident Neil Pollock who is researching and compiling a website and blog relating to the history of the Maher Cup and those towns which competed in this iconic country football event.
Mr Pollock is keen to make known the existence of the website and also to contact anyone associated with the Maher Cup who is interested in sharing their stories.
He hopes to add a complete list of all players who took part in any of the 727 Maher Cup matches played and selected player biographies to the articles, images, bibliography and links to TROVE resources he has already collected.
The website address is http://mahercup.com.au/ and there is an email address there for Mr Pollock. The ‘Your Stories’ and ‘Gallery’ sections look particularly interesting.
This is the final Library Lines column for the year. Best wishes to everyone for a joyous Christmas and a happy and healthy 2015 and I look forward to seeing you in the library next year.
