You choose whether you stay and sew or sew at home at your leisure. Tea and coffee will be on hand. Please bring your own lunch if you intend to stay for the day.
Days for Girls is an organization that allows girls in developing countries to have access to feminine hygiene products. This means they don’t have to miss days from school or work. This will be a project for anyone interested in poverty, female education and environmental sustainability. You can make a difference in the world, one girl at a time.
Check out the website www.daysforgirls.org for more information. If you would like to help but cannot sew, come along anyway as there are other ways you can be involved. We are looking for donations of: good quality cotton fabric; flannelette fabric; undies; washers; safety pins; small cakes of soap which will all be used to make up kits for distribution.
Kits are sent to the third world countries with Australian women as excess baggage who are travelling for business, pleasure or volunteer work. They are then given to local girls/women in need.
In some places, treadle machines have been donated so girls can start making their own kits. If you cannot make it on the day and are interested in helping in some way, please ring Hayley Bradley 63431127. If you have items suitable for donation, you can leave them at 8 Weddin Street.
