From the very first note, Once draws you in and never lets go. This emotionally captivating musical is the only show to have music that won the Academy Award®, Grammy Award®, Olivier Award and Tony Award®.
Set in modern day Dublin, Once is the story of a Guy who gave up on his music and his love and the Girl who inspired him to dream again. This exhilarating ‘Guy meets Girl’ musical is performed by an extraordinary cast of actor-musicians who sing, dance and play their hearts out on stage.
Bringing magic to the roles of Guy and Girl, and performing the Oscar award-winning song ‘Falling Slowly’ are Tom Parsons and Madeleine Jones.
This achingly beautiful, joyously uplifting show strikes an unforgettable chord in audiences and speaks to the power of music to connect us all. A show like that only comes around Once.
Produced by John Frost AM and directed by John Tiffany with Music Supervisor and Orchestrations by Martin Lowe, the show seduces you from the outset, when the audience is invited to share a drink on stage.
The story is based on the Oscar-winning film written by Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova.
That touch of reality is evident in playwright Enda Walsh’s stage adaptation in which the entire ensemble cast work closely together. Each member has to sing, dance and play instruments.
Tom Parsons says “I’ve never been in a room of more talented people- it’s insane -these are people who are handed a mandolin one day and come back the next day being able to play it - every single person is phenomenal and the work ethic is amazing”.
On opening night in Melbourne Saturday October 5 there was an immediate and spontaneous standing ovation of several minutes.
Terry and Deidre Carroll and their daughter Samantha were indeed proud to be present on opening night and walk the ‘red carpet’ enjoy a fantastic show and mix with the cast and crew at the after party - a show in which their son and brother Gerard plays Eamon in the absolutely beautiful musical Once.
Also present in the audience on opening night were Anthony Warlow and Sigrid Thornton.
