She was delighted to have her two brothers Ray and Gordon Abbott and their families (Grenfell) and her niece Esther Ramsdale and husband John who travelled from Victoria to join in the fun.

Her son Richard Loader and daughter Julie Hockings and her husband John together with her four grandchildren and their partners were also in attendance.

The highlight at the celebrations for Hazel was her nine great grandchildren being present to share this happy milestone. 

A fabulous weekend was had by all with lots of catching up and happy memoirs shared.

Payten Victoria Hope beautiful daughter of Jeremy and Madeline D’Ombrain was born on July 12 at the Forbes District Hospital.

Payten weighed 6lb 13oz at birth and was 50cm long.

Naturally Jeremy and Madeline were delighted with the arrival of their first child as were Grandparents Rodney and Vicki Walsh of Grenfell and Lester and Teresa D’Ombrain of Forbes.

A celebration with family and friends was held at the Grenfell County Club in June in honour of Bill Frost’s 90th birthday. 

Bill’s niece, Judy Hunter Quinn gave a recount of Bill’s life then called on Kath Smith to talk about the war years when she and Bill served time in the Second World War. 

After a short response from Bill, the microphone was then made available to any of the crowd who wished to share their memories - many relatives took advantage of this, telling some very interesting stories. Bill enjoyed the company of all those present but was particularly pleased to have lifelong friend, Kath Harris there.

On Sunday August 24, eight members of the Gooloogong Trail Riding Group met up at “Melyra” Bald Hills Road for their monthly trail ride.

In attendance were five members on horseback, one sulky and two support crew. 

This was voted one of the best rides for the year with some of the most magnificent views in the district. The great bush land and creeks made for perfect riding conditions.

Member expressed a huge thank you to Barry and Alan Knight and Ted Markham for allowing them access through their properties.

Former local John Waugh entered this photo  taken in the late 80’s with his son Josh after he saw that Bundaberg Ginger Beer were running a competition on Facebook called ‘Old School Dads’

 John said, “I thought why not enter this photo? Never ever thinking that I would win!!! As the old saying goes “You got to be in it, to win it!!”

Bundaberg Ginger Beer said “John was the lucky winner, who was drawn at random.  Sure looks like you’d need a ginger beer, or two, after mowing the lawn with your Old School Dad. Just as well you have won $1,000 and a personalised 6 pack of Bundaberg Ginger Beer!

Around 11.45 am on Monday September 1, Captain Daniel England son of Garth and the late Gaynor England of Grenfell and his crew transited the area on a farewell tour in a Blackhawk Helicopter. 

Daniel’s father Garth said that this will most probably be the last time we will see Blackhawks flying over Grenfell. 

Garth was able to get a photo of the helicopter as it hovered over Daniel’s former home “Wilgabar”.

Petal Davies of Faulconbridge returned to Grenfell last weekend to conduct a patching workshop during the day and to enjoy an evening out to dinner with some of the participants.

Erin Brique (Penrith), Suzie Lloyd (Wentworth Falls, Trish Partynski (Kurrajong Heights), Margaret Brique (Blaxland) and locals Joanne Simpson and Pat Verney all attended the workshop and enjoyed dinner with Petal at Fettler’s Restaurant on Saturday evening.
