It is just on three months since the Show committee accepted a list submitted by Mr A. A. Patterson, Shire Engineer, for the shifting and rearrangement of the whole of the buildings on the ground and the laying out of a new half-mile trotting track, parade ring, etc.
The whole of the work has now been completed under the supervision of Mr Patterson.Contractor A. A. Bradleys tender was accepted for the addition and removal of all buildings for the sum of £727, and would understand the whole ‘of the work performed by Contractor ‘ Bradley is very favorably commented upon as a smart and expedient bit of work, he having finished his work some four weeks ahead of the specified time. Mr W. W. List prepared the plans and specifications for the removal of the buildings.
The trotting track will be one of the finest in the State after it has been settled clown to its proper level, fully 2000 yards ‘of soil having been used in re-grading the same and over 1000 yards has been carted on to various places on the ground for levelling purposes, and it can well be understood should rain not fall between now and showtime there will be trouble ahead as far as the trotting track is concerned for the coming show ; but, we believe it is the intention of the show committee to utilise the old track should the new one not be workable for trotting purposes.
Anyway, the show committee should be congratulated for their enterprise and foresight as in a couple of year’s time Grenfell will have one of the most up-to-date showgrounds in the State.
We understand the whole of the improvements runs into about £1000, towards which Councillor Bembrick has given a donation of £50,and other members have also promised large donations thereby showing from a practical point of view the interest they are taking in connection with their Association, and it is now left for the general public to further assist the committee by a record entry and attendance for the forthcoming show to be held as usual the first week in September.
