This Friday 22nd August you will have the opportunity to see the beauty and diversity of our local wattles first hand when Weddin Landcare and Young District Landcare hold a Wattle Day Walk at Rosemont in Grenfell.

Rosemont is a property close to town where thousands of local native plants, including over twenty five species of wattle, have been planted or are growing wild. 

Wattle happen on the day? As we wander through the wattle groves, we will identify the many types of wattles and you will be amazed at how many there are and how each species is totally unique. Even the flowers have their own unique scent!  

Weddin Community Native Nursery volunteers  will be present with a selection of wattles they have grown. They will be available to help you select a free wattle plant to take home and answer your questions about the nursery.  Other plants grown at the nursery will be available for sale. 

You will receive a free book on local grassland flora and there will be lots of wattle literature for you to take home. We also invite you to bring along wattle specimens for identification and your favourite wattle poem, song or verse to share with us during lunch.

Morning tea and lunch will be provided, including wattle seed biscuits and there will also be wine tasting, with the option to buy.

A second Wattle Day event will be held in Young next Tuesday 26th August, with a bus trip to see some roadside wattles, followed by a walk on Mokhinui Vineyards, also with wild-growing and planted wattles.
