Following the reading of the Minutes by Secretary, George Walker and the Treasurer’s Report by Treasurer, Les Schaeffer, correspondence was read including invitations to the Lion’s Changeover Dinner on 1st August and to West Wyalong Probus Birthday Luncheon, greetings from General Manager of Probus South Pacific and details from Weddin Shire Council re entry in the Damper Bake –off to be held at Goldfest on 27th September.
Robyn Logan won the draw for birthday of the month, after Social Secretary Rosalie White read Birthdays and Wedding anniversaries and Tourist Officer Esma Baker announced the possibility of a Mystery trip in late September, with details at the August meeting, a day trip to Narrandera Open Gardens on 26th October, with names now being accepted and a 3 day trip in March 2015 around the Hawkesbury/Richmond area.
A report on the Rotary Changeover Dinner on 25th June and attended by 12 Probians was read by Robyn Logan and Coral Mitton read a report on the “Taste of Tamworth Show’ held at Young Services Club on 19th July.
Plans were advised for our own Birthday Luncheon on 20th October to which other Clubs are invited and the cost of $25 is to be paid by the September meeting.
After morning tea, Entertainment Officer, Gwen Clark, introduced our Guest Speaker, Ed Fagan of ‘Mulyan’, Cowra, a Lachlan Valley mixed farm with sheep, wheat, fat lambs, lucerne hay and vegetables and Ed, without notes, held us enthralled for an hour with his inspiring stories of finding answers to the problems faced by Australian farmers with water problems, escalating costs and the competition caused by increasing imports from overseas. Ed, definitely a progressive farmer with foresight for the future, was thanked by Rose Paull, and then overwhelmed by members asking him questions and congratulating him on his achievements.
Our next meeting, to be held on Monday, 18th August, will be the popular Probus Speaking Contest for The Henry Lawson High School students.
