Wrap with Love is a charity which organises the knitting or crocheting of woollen squares for joining together to make warm wraps. Initially it was viewed as a way to use up those odd balls of wool which we all accumulate but nowadays most of the wool is purpose-purchased and some of the finished wraps are real works of art.

In 2013 over 32,000 wraps were distributed making a grand total of 365,374 since the charity commenced operating in 1992. Since February of this year 4,000 wraps have been distributed by World Vision, 1,000 by Mission Without Borders which serves Eastern Europe and 50 by the Salvation Army's Oasis for the homeless in Sydney amongst other donations. Some of the countries which are major recipients include Armenia, Ukraine, Philippines, Madagascar, Argentina, Mongolia, Zimbabwe, Sierra Leone, Albania, Uganda and Australia.
Libraries have traditionally had a close association with Wrap with Love, initially as collection points for the squares and wraps and later organising onsite 'knit-ins'. "Knit, Natter and Nibble" began at the Grenfell library in 2010, combining the elements of knitting the squares, enjoying a chat and partaking of morning tea.
The first year we sent away a modest 205 squares but the number has risen steadily over the years since then and last year we sent away 741 square equivalents. Quite a few ladies knit at home, including some who are active for the full twelve months. Numbers attending the "Knit, Natter and Nibble" sessions vary but average around half a dozen. ABC Radio has been a keen supporter of Wrap with Love over the years and Brooke Daniels from the 2CR breakfast show again attended the final session on Wednesday of this week at the Grenfell Library as a special guest and took the 31 completed wraps and extra squares back to Orange for transportation to Sydney. Thank you Brooke.
