With a tough first 10minutes, Fletcher (aka Cliffy Palu) barged over for the first try of the day. With a conversion from Frazer. Rhys quickly added some more points on the board putting us in a comfortable position. Jai displayed brilliant defence. A lapse in concentration and lazy defence found some players having a rest in the bin. Young took advantage of this situation. As half-time was approaching our star defender Frazer, tore his hamstring while performing in a tackle. As the whistle blew for half-time, we all knew that as a team we had to pull our weight.
In the second we started slow, bringing Young’s Tom Jenkins to pack on the points. With Young powering on, our defence lacked constantly, causing another sin bin. Young-33 Grenfell-12. Jai was the stand out with his hard running and commitment to the ruck.
Our second game against Temora, was for sure going to be great to watch. As we kicked off and gained possession, Angus and Josh L ran like a steam train, which meant that we would surely make some metres.
This got Rhys in position to pin his ears back and put on some points. Hamish Napier was on Temora’s ball all day long, giving us a massive amount of ball, causing josh C, Jack and Zac getting some space to make some moves and metres. Big and strong forwards Tom P and Sam cleaned out all day and did a brilliant forwards job. It was 5 minutes before half-time when the unpredictable move 8, 9 and 12 stole the Best try of the season. With Fletcher picking up the ball at the back of the scrum and using his strength to palm off 2 Temora boys. He then offloaded to Stirling. He kicked in his not so fast jet boots and made about 20 metres before being ran down by the fullback. He passed off to the flying cheetah, Rhys, he then used his pace to sprint to the corner.
With about 10 minutes into the second half tom and Matthew put on their backs brilliance, coming together to both defend and make metres with the ball. Will Bucknell had a solid game, cleaning out, defending and having an allround forwards game. Jai played well, being one of the best forwards in the game. Fletch, Matt, and Tom R were the solid team players in that game. Rhys was at his magnificent best scoring 7 individual tries for the game and defending soundly. Fabulous effort that!
With a win and a loss for the day, the boys have something to think about as the finals are fast approaching. Well Done!
