Grenfell Bowling Club Under 7’s boys turned up in frosty conditions on Saturday morning and their legs defied the cold. The Young side had the Grenfell boys running from one end of the field to the other. Great strength by Noah and Blake prevented Young from scoring with relentless defense. Fergus, Ray and Charlie worked together passing the ball and making some great attacking plays. The boys are playing like a cohesive team and their ball skills improve every week. A very entertaining game of soccer.

The Grenfell Under 8’s Oliver’s Hardware played CPC at Young.
The team members were Xanthe Johnson, Michelle Walker, Annabella Taylor, Kirby Moore, Harry Forde, Hayley Taylor, Hamish Baker, Hugh Allen and Brodie Loader. The Grenfell coaches were Monique Taylor and Jenny Bell.
On a bright sunny Saturday morning the Oliver’s Hardware u/8’s took on the CPC side from Young.
The match started under the watchful eye of referee Grace Best and straight away Grenfell were on the attack. Annabella, Brodie and Harry attacked the ball and they were unlucky not to score early.
Hugh and Michelle were containing the Young team in midfield and passing forward well.
Young had many attempts at goal but backs Hayley and Xanthe, along with goalie Kirby, repelled every raid.
Young were a well-drilled side and the coach finally got his reward when his side scored a goal just prior to half time. Grenfell tried to equalise, but to no avail and went to the break 1-0 down.
I’m not sure what was in the water at halftime but the Young side came out firing. Before Coach Taylor had arranged the side Young had scored.
Unfortunately this seemed to be Young’s day and they appeared to be passing to each other as if the ball was on piece of string.
The Young team racked up 6 goals for the second half. Although we tried hard to score, with Harry and Annabella going close a few times, we just couldn’t get one in the net.
Well done to Oliver’s Hardware players on a good game.
Thanks especially to Mrs Taylor for her ongoing coaching efforts. Awards for the day went to Hugh Allen, Brodie Loader, Annabella Taylor and Kirby Moore.
On a cold, cold morning it was great to see the sun come out for Under 8 Grenfell Gold’s game against Osmond Excavations.
We played very well and narrowed the margin significantly from our gala day match with Osmond Excavations.
Well done to all the kids with special mention to Spencer and Yetu.
Once again Spencer had a great game in attack and defence and was heading the ball beautifully on a couple of occasions.
Yetu had a good strong game and is very dangerous when she has the ball at her feet.
Well done to goalies Chase and Rueben – some great saves and some quick thinking allowed us to get the ball down the other end promptly.
Great work again by Bill, Kate, Hugo and Emily. Coach Wood was very pleased this week and feels it is time to start playing in positions.
On Saturday, July 19, the Grenfell Spray Safe & Save u/17’s soccer team played Young MBS at Top Lawson Oval. The Coach was Martin Galea and the team members were James Day, Lewis Keogh, Eddie Galea, Kurtis Meier, Matthew Whatman, Grace Best, Theo Burns, Frazer Burns, Katerina Burns, Charlotte Amery, Kate Amery and Deejae Griffiths.
The game started with a beautiful sunny day and Grenfell started with their main striker out injured. Within minutes, however, Grenfell were in front after a great goal from Frazer. Grenfell then continued to pepper the opposition and at the twenty minute mark the two Burns brothers worked together to score Grenfell’s second goal. Grenfell were clearly in good form as they proceeded to put another goal away against the Young opposition via Kurts (The Legend). To emphasise the point the Legend then put another goal in to the MBS net just before half time. Score: Grenfell 4 - Young nil.
The second half play see-sawed back and forth until, Grenfell, with some very unselfish passing, scored again with Big James Day finding the back of the net. With Grenfell ahead, Super Coach Martin put Grace and Kate up forward and they put in an awesome half.
After 25 minutes into the second half Big James Day scored again. In the meantime, the forwards worked well but the backs, Katherine and Charlotte were working hard as Young finally went into attack mode.
Matty Whatman however was holding out well in goals in the second half and was cool in defence. Grenfell were putting together some great team work when Kate took the ball to the top of the bar in an excellent display by her team mates of unselfish play.
Full time Score: Grenfell 6 - Young MBS nil
Goalscorers - James Day 2, Frazer Burns 2, Kurtis Meier 2.
