What a busy last couple of months it has been. I remember the day when I received a phone call from Ron McLelland to be asked if I would be a queen candidate, representing Rotary, for this year’s Henry Lawson Festival. I honestly was shocked but felt so honoured at the same time. It was an opportunity which I was not going to let slide by as I knew I would benefit from the experience. Once I said yes and time was limited, organisation of fundraising began. This included a wood raffle where tickets were sold at IGA for over a week and a fundraising dinner at the railway hotel with an attendance of around 50 people. Also, Rotary donated $1000 to the Grenfell Art Gallery. I was very pleased with the fundraising that was accomplished. Throughout the festival, I had the opportunity to attend many events. Some of the main events included the day of judging at Hugh Moffit’s, the opening of the Art Gallery, the Festival Concert, a luncheon on the Saturday and the Guinea pig races on Sunday. For the festival parade on Saturday, I chose the movie Mary Poppins as my theme. With the assistance of Ben Causer (using his ute), my parents & Danica Perceval for decorating and the major contribution from Kyle Anderson for being my chimney sweeper. Thankyou to all that helped to produce a successful float.

I would like to take this opportunity to show my appreciation to the Grenfell Rotary club for their support, encouragement and anyone who helped with fundraising. I would like to give a special thanks to Ron and Jan McLelland as they kept me up to date with festival information, helped me with the fundraising events and continuously showed me reassurance. Also my thanks goes out to the Festival committee for organising such a wonderful and enjoyable weekend and a major thanks to Tamara McMahon and Michelle Johnson for their amazing input to the festival and mentoring skills given to myself and the other queen candidates.
Finally, thankyou to my family, especially Mum and Dad for caring and guiding me throughout the months as I would not have felt so organised and calm without their help.
I am so thrilled that the festival ended in such a direct success for myself and for the Grenfell Rotary Club. To be crowned the Festival Queen has reminded me of the importance of this town and the community spirit within. It will forever be my home town and the town where memories were made throughout my childhood. So of course, thankyou to everyone in the Grenfell community.
Without the support and involvement given, the Henry Lawson Festival would not be such a successful event for the town. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience as a queen candidate and wish the festival committee all the best in 2015 and the years to follow.
