With his children Ciara and Phinean and his mother Liz O’Byrne  they all enjoyed a day at the rugby league football on Saturday afternoon to watch his brother Steve play with the Grenfell Dinosaurs against the Young Cherryatrics.

Phinean was celebrating his 5th birthday with his cousins at the football, while his mother was organising the special birthday cake.

Steve joined the family after his game to watch the Goannas in a close encounter with Gooloogong.

Mark Loader also had a day playing football with the Grenfell Dinosaurs against Young Cherryatrics on Saturday afternoon.

He shared some special time with his children Brodie and Marley whilst watching the Grenfell Goannas come from behind to defeat Gooloogong. 

A huge crowd of Goanna supporters was present at the Albion Hotel following the big day of league in Grenfell on Saturday July 5.

After many draws, Dean Nealon was the final name to be drawn from the barrel to win the major prize. Congratulations Dean.

Local resident Arch Caldwell enjoyed a cosy afternoon in front of the open fire in the lounge/dining room of the Railway Hotel on Wednesday afternoon July 9.

Arch was joined by his daughter Helen Reidy, who had travelled all the way from Doha in the Middle East and her friend Therese Row from Canberra.

Formerly from Bribbaree, Arch, who now resides at the MPS in Grenfell, had a lovely afternoon reminiscing about days gone by with a few of the locals.

Arch is looking forward to a visit from his other daughter, Cathy Harding this week. Cathy lives in Port Macquarie and will be transporting her father to the popular holiday destination for a short break and to get away from the chilly, frosty Grenfell mornings!!

The Grenfell Cubs will be holding a Bingo Night at the Grenfell Country Club tomorrow Saturday July 19. Families are welcome and a barbecue will be available – so no need to cook before you come out for a fun evening.

Books of Bingo tickets are just $12.

The Grenfell Cubs also run a meat raffle each Tuesday evening at the Railway Hotel.

This is proving to be a great fundraiser for the Cubs who need support.

The Australian National Field Days is conducting an art competition and sale and is calling for artists of all ages, skill and mediums to enter and illustrate this year’s subject “Year of the Farming Family”.

All works need to portray family images within an agricultural entity/activity’ encompassing farming, grazing, horticulture, viticulture, dairying or pastoral aspects of agriculture.

A family fun afternoon/night will be held on Saturday July 19 from 4pm at the Grenfell Bowling Club.

There will be raffles, auctions, face painting, lucky door prize and more.

The Bistro will be open and a Dessert and Lolly Bar will be in operation.

Paul Westman will be presenting “Absolute Magic” and entertainment   by Holly Shaw, Josh Maynard, Threefold Arts, Luke Harveyson and Leather Grace.

David Kennedy of Kings Plains has assumed the volunteer post of Rotary International District Governor for District 9700 for 2014-15.

As governor, Mr Kennedy coordinates the community and international service projects of the 40 clubs in the greater western area from Oberon to Henty.

Mr Kennedy is one of 532 Rotarians worldwide serving as a district governor this year.

A member of the Rotary club of Blayney for eight years, Mr Kennedy will also be responsible for organising new Rotary clubs and strengthening existing ones.

“Adopting the credo ‘Service Above Self’ costs nothing buts can provide others with extraordinary benefit.”

Mr Kennedy assumed office on July 1 and will serve through until June 30, 2015.

David’s first official visit was to the Grenfell Rotary Club on Wednesday evening at the Country Club. He was accompanied on his visit by the Assistant District Governor Tony Sinclair of Temora.
