Grenfell Record
Dear Sir,
The Lions Club of Grenfell does amazing work with and for the community.
They are passionate, committed, friendly and supportive. Each year the Lions enter a candidate in the Henry Lawson Festival Queen competition, and this year I was the lucky one to be chosen. They had asked me at the end of 2013 and I accepted the offer straight away.
I have worked with the Lions quite a few times in the past, so I was very excited to be given this opportunity. It was a very busy few months with lots of fundraising and events to organise. All of our fundraising was very successful and everyone had a great time. We held wood raffles, the mini lotto, street stalls, and barbecues, as well as some larger events. We had a seafood night at the Railway Hotel, which was a great night with delicious food – thank you Carol, Laurel and Lyn and we also had the ‘Evening at Arramagong’ which was a little chilly, but a fantastic night.
I had to attend different events for the Festival including the opening of the Art Exhibition, the Festival Concert, the Official Luncheon and the Festival Awards Dinner.
We also entered a float in the procession which was a Wizard of Oz theme, and won the ‘Best Movie Theme’ award.
Thank you to the Lions who organised the float, the Grenfell Dramatic Society for the hire of the Lion and Tin Man suit and a special thank you to Dad, Hannah and Jane Ryder for dressing up with me.
It was a very busy time, but well worth it because we raised $13394 of which $2009.10 is retained by the Henry Lawson Festival Committee, and the remainder reimbursed to the Lions Club. This is in addition to the $1350 sponsorship to Festival by the Lions Club.
One of the projects the Lions want to undertake is to put a shade cover over the park at the Railway Station.
With the money raised I was crowned Charity Queen, but all the candidates put in an amazing effort to raise money also. Overall I had a fantastic time and I am so grateful for everyone’s help and support. Tamara and Michelle were very helpful and friendly, alongside the Festival Committee. My family, especially mum and dad, deserves huge thanks for supporting me and helping where they could. However, the biggest thanks goes to the Lions Club. They do a tremendous job within the community and I was very excited to be chosen by them as their candidate.
The Festival, however, would not have been as successful as it was without the contribution of the Grenfell community. Thankyou all for your generosity and support.
Sincerely,
Georgia Robinson
