However the Shamrock Hotel was bursting at the seams with locals and visitors coming together for the first Greenethorpe Master Cake competition and to celebrate the end of a busy term at the school.
With an Easter theme, parents and locals put in a huge creative effort to produce some truly amazing cakes.
In the spirit of ‘just having a go’, all the competitors were at home amateur cooks whom were keen to try out some baking and icing skills as well as get ideas from each other.
Guest judge, Tabitha Jones had a hard time picking a winner and in the end, every entry was recognised for either its design, its fondant or its handiwork.
The kids enjoyed a sausage sizzle decorating some cup cakes of their own and had a hard time keeping their hands off the prize winning creations.
The cakes were auctioned following the judging, with even the sugar wary finding themselves tempted to out bid others for the chance to take home some great treats.
A great night was had by all. The P & C would like to say a big thank you to the Shamrock Hotel for hosting the event.
The master cake competition looks set to become a regular feature on the Greenethorpe calendar. Make sure you don’t miss the next one!
