23 candidates step forward for your vote

The ballot draw for the Weddin Shire Council elections Candidates was conducted at the Young Electoral Commission office in the Young Town Hall on Wednesday, August 8th at 2pm by the Returning Officer for the Weddin, Boorowa, Young and Cowra Shires, Mary Moffitt, in order as they will appear on the ballot paper.

The Ballot Draw for the Weddin Shire was a lengthy affair owing to the number of candidates who nominated for the election to be conducted on Saturday, September 8th.

Some 23 citizens have registered as candidates which has resulted a large ballot paper to be filled out by the Weddin electors.

This would have to be one of the most contested elections in recent memory (if not ever) and it is a real credit to all those candidates who have stepped forward and nominated.

This will be one election that will no doubt stand out in the memory of all those electors and candidates who will perform their solemn duty on September the 8th.

It also is a solid reminder to the powerbrokers that ordinary citizen’s do care about their local community and are not put off having their say because of what is portrayed as politics in the media. Local Council is the bedrock of democracy and this election will send a clear message to our major lawmakers in Canberra and the major cities of our nation that our citizen’s are not deterred from participation in the democratic process by their shenanigans.

Congratulations to all of you – may it be the experience of a lifetime – Peter Soley – Editor Grenfell Record
