At the weekend there were two weddings, two family reunions, a school reunion, a 60th wedding anniversary as well as grand final barbecues just to name a few happenings.
Parents will be pleased and relieved that the children are now back at school and motorists are reminded of the 40km speed limit around the schools.
CONSPICUOUS SERVICE CROSS MEDAL: Rob and Pam Livingstone attended an investiture ceremony at Government House, Sydney On Friday September 13, where Her Excellency, Marie Bashir, Governor of NSW presented their son Mitchell with a Conspicuous Service Cross Medal.
His citation reads: “For outstanding achievement while Commanding Officer HMAS Pirie engaged in the rescue of survivors from a foundered vessel at Christmas Island on 15 December 2010”.
Mitchell and Chelsea have had an extremely busy week with the International Fleet Review and are enjoying their heritage listed residence at HMAS Watson, Watsons Bay.
FAMILY GATHERING: Elina Docks and Wayne Hosie enjoyed having dinner with Tom and Lexie Cassidy when they visited Grenfell recently.
Wayne, who is Tom’s grandson will be joining local man Jeremy Heathcote in the NSW Sports Shearing Team and will be competing in the National Shearing Titles in October at Wannambool.
Lexie and Tom recently returned from Boggabri to retire in Grenfell.
Lexie will be remembered as the daughter of the late Jack and June Hall and sister of Mark ‘Welby’ Hall.
HOLIDAY VISITORS: Max and Marie Barr enjoyed a visit from their daughter Judy and her husband Rod Jones from Sydney over the school holidays.
Rod and Judy brought with them their delightful granddaughter Skye Isaacs from Canowindra to visit her great grandparents Max and Marie.
RUGBY UNION TRAGICS: Bill Mendham organised a night out with former Rugby Union players when Tony Delaney and his wife Katherine visited Grenfell in late September.
Tony played rugby union with the boys when he lived in Grenfell from 1969 t0 1973.
Errol and Maureen Perkins, Barry and Valma Franklin, Ian and Barbara Jones joined Bill and Gale Mendham for a fun evening out to welcome Tony and Katherine back.
Katherine is the daughter of former ANZ Bank Manager Bill and Nancy Scroope and a sister of Paula Wheatley.
No doubt some great stories were told during the night.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY JADE: During the holidays, for her birthday, Jade Hooper spent a very special day with Gai Waterhouse.
She spent the morning at the trainers hut in the centre of Randwick Racecourse -she met jockeys Nash Rawiller, Tommy Berry and Glyn Schofield and went back to the stables and checked out the horses and then to the 2 year old jump outs.
Gai was very friendly and went out of her way and really took a shine to Jade and was impressed with her knowledge of racing and she signed a book and a hat for Jade.
Gai is now Jade’s favourite and she went above and beyond for her.
Gai is such a wonderful trainer and lady and to take the time with a horse-mad country girl was magnificent. Jade has been invited back which I am sure she will want to do.
OPEN GARDENS: This weekend October 12 and 13, Grenfell Open Gardens will be held.
The whole town looks absolutely magnificent with flowers in bloom and the streets adorned with the beautifully coloured Gazanias.
Eight gardens have been nominated for inspection and will be open from 10am -4pm each day. Flags will be at the front of each garden open for inspection.
Brochures indicating which gardens are open are available at the CWA Craft Shop and Tourism Information Centre.
Entry to each garden is a gold coin donation.
Refreshments will be available at Ron and Eunice Huckel’s home in Bradley Street. Tickets in a competition to be drawn Sunday afternoon will also be available at Huckel’s home.
All monies raised from the weekend goes to local charities and Grenfell Can-Assist.
Please contact Nina Roderick on 0410185662 for further information.
HAPPY CHOOKS: Freuin Forsyth, Peter Keppie and Al Leibick were very happy supporters of their Sydney Roosters on Sunday evening when their team won the Rugby League grand final.
As Freuin has now moved into town in the same street as ‘Rooster’ Bush, Michelle Rohan and Mick Madgewick maybe they will be asking council to change the name of their street. As there is already an East Street – they would have to come up with a suitable name!!!
No naughty ones though.
WEDDIN MOUNTAIN MUSTER: Joy Maroota from Wiseman’s Ferry and Katrina Rosie from Maraylya attended the Weddin Mountain Muster in September.
This was Joy’s 4th year at the muster and she and Katrina indicated it certainly will not be their last.
They were very impressed with the welcome, friendliness and hospitality of the whole community.
