CJ Anderson & Co Under 12’s
This weeks’ team consisted of: Jarrad Wilson, Rhys Martens, Adam Hewen, Frazer Ryder, Mathew Ryan, Sam Crutcher, Aaron Mawhinney, Lachlan Stevens, Jullian McAlister & playing up from the under 10’s were Jack Garrity & Nathan Wilson.
Our Grenfell boys ran onto the field ready to play what they knew would be a hard game against Red Bend. Red Bend kicked off for what turned out to be a long game for Grenfell, with the final score being Grenfell 4 – Red Bend 34. It was great to see Frazer turn up to support pink day, donning his pink footy socks that also matched his pink head gear. Sam made a couple of good runs this week along with a few handy tackles. Sam has grown so much as a player this season. Rhys was giving his all once again, trying his hardest to push through the Red Bend players, then giving what he got when it came to defending. Given half a chance, when Adam gets the ball he can e a good little runner, as tried to show during the game. Red Bend had a couple of bigger boys on their side, one in particular & it was great to see Grenfell coming together as a team every now & then to bring down those bigger players. Jack turned up once again for his second game of the day in full force with his mind set on making sure the opposition didn’t have an easy time getting over the line. Jarrad made a really nice run & unfortunately lost the ball, but Frazer was there to scoop it up. Not long after Jarrad covered great distance towards the try line then passed the ball to Aaron, allowing him to get the ball over the line for the under 12’s first & only try for the day. Great team work Jarrad! The conversion by Frazer wasn’t meant to be. Aaron had an all round good game, getting involved throughout. Matty & Jullian were good support players for the day. The support players are a vital part of the team, without them there would be no team. Lachlan was in a bit of everything during the game, giving his all. The under 12’s always appreciate it when Nathan plays his second game for the day for them, bringing his skills & strength with him
The players who took to the field for this week’s game against Red Bend were: Dan Harveyson, Taz Harding, Hugh Matthews, Robert Ryan, Taran Stewart, Henry Hunt, Zachary Starr, Alec Abbott, Joshua Edwards, David Parsons, Sean King, Connor Brebner, Ben Hancock and Josh Knight. Jordan Verde played up from the Under 14s.
Red Bend kicked off and our boys were defending well. Another classic chase and tackle by Dan to stop a Red Bend try but they managed to slip through on the next set of six to score first. The boys were really keeping the pressure on and pushing Red Bend back. Henry was making some impressive tackles and Robert made a long zigzag run looking for gaps in the Red Bend defence. Eventually it was Ben Hancock who found the soft spot in the Red Bend line and went in to score Grenfell’s first try of the game. His try was converted by Henry.
The boys were behind at half time but they came out fighting. The pressure was so great that they forced a lot of Red Bend errors. Zach grabbed a loose ball from the ground and Connor and Sean ran it to close to the line. Josh Edwards scooted from dummy half to try and score but was held up. Another set of six and Sean passed to Hugh who took it close to the line. Alec nearly pushed his way over the try line. Finally Grenfell scored again when Dan got the ball and streaked up the sideline. Hugh was unlucky when his kick bounced off the goalpost and straight back at him. Connor had a go at running up the other sideline to score but Red Bend had his number. The final score was 22 to 10. Grenfell didn’t win but they learned a lot about this team that will help them when they meet again later in the season when, hopefully, Grenfell will be victorious!
