Following the completing of all his obligations with the Australian Royal College of Physicians in Sydney, Dr Patrick Akhiwu, Grenfell’s impending new doctor, paid a quick visit to the town last Friday.
He did a tour of Main Street where he was frequently stopped by local well wishers for a chat. Doctor Akhiwu also visited the MPS where he met staff and patients and again was stopped by many locals who wanted to talk with him.
He was then taken down to inspect the new house on the Lawson Estate that he will be leasing off the council for the tenure of his stay in Grenfell.
In what was a very busy afternoon Dr Akhiwu then inspected the Burrangong St Surgery and was, to say the least, delighted with the set-up.
Following on from that he then visited a school in town after which he only had time for a change of clothes before attending a small dinner at the Railway Hotel with the local pharmacist, the Council’s Mayor, deputy Mayor and General Manager along with several local health representatives from the hospital and MPS.
Next morning the doctor returned to Sydney for the start of his return odyssey to his family back home in Botswana where, it is hoped by all, he will soon be frantically organising his and his family’s return to Australia and Grenfell.
