There will be something very different at this year’s Henry Lawson Festival - a display of sheep. A livestock display is something you might associate with the annual show but - it is unique in the recent history of the Festival. At retirement age Doug and Elizabeth thought another challenge in life was worth doing.
Having seen the Ryeland sheep being used successfully as terminal sires for fat lambs in Victoria they purchased foundation stock to commence their Ryeland Stud at Gooloogong.
The Ryeland is an old English meat breed but has been developed over the past 40 years to meet the criteria required to produce top prime lambs under Australian conditions.
The Grenfell Henry Lawson Festival is the forerunner to their open day at Janelli, Gooloogong on August 1 where they will be exhibiting ewes and rams - with rams for sale.
