Wine and cheese tasting night

A last reminder of the Wine and Cheese Tasting Evening which the Rotary Club of Grenfell will be holding as its Fundraiser for the Club’s Festival Queen Candidate, Rachael Eppelstun.

The function will be held at the Country Club, beginning at 6.30 p.m. on Friday 11th May, and tickets are available at Louisa’s Locker at $12 each.

Cheese has been around probably for as long a period as wine – the word comes from the Latin caseus, and arrived in its present form via Old German chasi, kesi, and kasi, to Old English cese, and then acquired an “h” and an extra “e” to become the versatile word it is today.(Sorry – this correspondent likes language!)

Anyway, whatever its origins, clients will find a goodly variety of the product available on Friday evening.

There are suggested pairings, but when one is dealing with that most idiosyncratic of our senses, taste, anything goes.

There used to be a TV ad for Sussan; “this goes with that and that goes with this”, but on Friday you can taste your wine with whatever cheese you fancy, and be assured that nobody is going to come up with an argument, whatever you choose.

There will be a raffle, with prizes very generously executed and donated by Mrs Sylvia Brind.

The winning ticket will gain you a framed painting of a lush creek; the second is a charming, unframed depiction of coastal sand dunes.

Tickets are $1.

There will also be prizes for the prettiest scarf (woman) and most appealing scarf, cravat, stock or tie (man).

To re-cap – Friday, 11th May, Country Club, 6.30 p.m., $12 per person and tickets available at Louisa’s Locker.

Come on – it’s for a very good cause!
