Going into the match Grenfell were down two players from the previous week, with both Hannah and Bailie away. But they did welcome back veteran, Adam Green, starting his first junior game of the season. Once again Kurtis Meier joined the team after already playing his match for the 14s.
The team consisted of: Rachael, Michael, Melissa, Charlotte, Jaykob, Annie, Claire, Kurtis, James, Adam.
Grenfell knew it would not be as easy as the previous game, but complacency had crept in and within minutes of the game starting MBS had scored. In a bit of shock Grenfell rallied to get it back to 1-1 with some great team work from the forwards and excellent backing up from Kurtis. MBS played well and managed to put two more goals in before the end of the first half, leading 3-1 at the break.
Grenfell knew they had to step up if they were any chance of winning and be more dominant on the ground. Adam had many good attacking runs down the wing and many shots on goal with many going just wide (that’s alright mate, we know you were saving yourself for Seniors the next day). He did finally manage to score to bring the score back to within one goal.
As the game went on Grenfell started to tire and MBS took advantage of this and put two goals to seal the win. 5-2 the final score to MBS.
The Bakers Delight award went to Annie Matthews who had a great game at right half, playing both attacking and defending roles. The McDonald’s Sports award went to Michael Walker who took on Hannah’s role in the backs and stopped many attacks on goal and who also had a few shots on goal himself.
