THE message from Sydney FC star John Aloisi after he turned down an offer from Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua is clear: I'm not going anywhere.
Sydney were hoping their marquee signing would take up a three-month loan move, with Shanghai preparing to pick up the bulk of Aloisi's reported $27,000-a-week wages, allowing the striker to gain some game time.
But with the two clubs having already struck a deal to have Aloisi, 33, play in the Chinese Super League until June, and with new Sydney coach Vitezslav Lavicka having given the striker his blessing to go, the plan was shelved yesterday after the player vetoed the deal.
Instead, Aloisi says he's determined to prove his doubters wrong, reach peak fitness and win his place back in the Sky Blues' first XI.
"I was [interested] at the beginning, but I spoke to a few people about it and I want to have a good pre-season under the new coach," Aloisi said. "We're going to be playing a lot of pre-season games which is important for me, because I didn't play a lot this season and to make sure I'm not playing catch-up. If I went out on loan, I'd probably come back and need a week off and then play catch-up on the pre-season and I don't want to do that.
"I want to make sure I'm right for Sydney FC and the right thing for me to do is to have a good pre-season, play a lot of friendly games, get to know the coach, he will get to know us and me personally, and take it from there."
Alosi will almost certainly remain at the club to see out the second year of his contract unless he accepts a settlement package, which the club now appears unlikely to offer.
Sydney left for China yesterday before their match against Shanghai on Saturday.
