 Exciting year ahead

Exciting year ahead

05 Feb, 2010 10:16 AM
The rugby season is upon us again and with a new competition the members players and supporters are very excited and keen to see what lies ahead for the Grenfell Panthers.

This year will see us head north to join the Central West Competition. Grenfell will be playing in the Australian National Field Day Cup, a competition for towns with one senior team. Grenfell have also nominated a U17’s and women’s side. Teams competing in this years’ ANFD Cup include Blayney, Cudal, Canowindra, West Wyalong, Condobolin, Orange Aggies, Orange Barbarians & Orange Waratahs.

The comp will be run as a home and away draw, expected to commence on the 10th of April, with every 2nd week being a home game with a total of 8 home games and the possibility of finals being played at R.B. Bembrick field, if Grenfell can make the final five.

Before the season starts we have a few warm up games starting with the annual trip down to Kiama for the 7’s on the 28th Feb.

We also are heading to Cowra to compete in the 10’s comp on the 6th March, and a trial against Young on the 20th March.

As you might have noticed the club along with members, volunteers and local businesses have been very busy in the off season repairing the ground laying new turf to try to improve the playing surface.

It is coming along nicely but more work is still to be done to get it ready for the first home game.

We have also started to put a new club house on top of our change rooms which still has some work to be done.

Once finished this will no doubt be the place to spend a Saturday afternoon watching and cheering the Panthers on as they take on the new and unknown opposition.

A big thanks must go to all involved for the time and generosity that you have given the club. It would not have been possible without your help.

So with the excitement of the new competition we invite new and the present players to come down for a year of good old fashioned running rugby. Training has started on Tuesday nights at 6.30 at R.B. Bembrick Field.

For those of you who want to spend a afternoon out with friends come on down and enjoy the atmosphere and excitement at the rugby.

Joggy.
