CANASSIST CHARITY DAY TOMORROW - MEN

The Grenfell Country Club, in conjunction with sponsors C J Anderson & Co, will tomorrow conduct a golf event in aid of ‘Can assist Grenfell’. This event will be a 3 person Ambrose (1 player per group with an A G U handicap), start anytime between 10am and 1pm, cost $25.00 per player which includes in Spit Roast Lunch. This is new ground for our Club and a very worthy cause, so please make every effort to support.

The medal round on Sunday was reasonably well supported with 15 players participating. The day would have to belong to veteran, Rob Taylor, making a come back, and having a 62 net to win the B grade. If he loses 1 more shot we will be kicking him upstairs into A grade as we have no lace in B grade for burglars. Next best in B grade were Farren Stevens and Cec Aston on 67 net and Peter Mawhinney came 3rd with 69 net.

A grade medal winner was Craig McMahon on a count back from John Grant and Paul Taylor all with 67 net, Peter Harris missed an opportunity to win where he had an 8 on the 17th, came 2nd with 68 net and Brian Brown was 3rd on 69 net. The ball competition stopped on 67 net and better, and Peter Harris excelled in the 18th to be nearest the pin.

Saturday’s Stableford only attracted 8 players so there was only 1 grade. Congratulations to Chris Fletcher winning with 37 pts, Barry Parker and Geoff Fravenmaker were equal 2nd with 35 pts, and Peter Harris and Brian Brown each had 34 pts to be 3rd. Balls were allotted to 35 pts and better and Max Barr felt better after being nearest the pin.

Only 5 players turned up last Wednesday, the hot weather and the harvest restricting numbers. The conditions suited Bob Bassett though when he returned a score of 36 pts, Cec Aston was 2nd on 34 pts and Gravy came 3rd with 33 pts. Bob and Cec each won a ball and there was no nearest the pin.

Social golf was well supported with 15 players teeing off to play the top nine. Jamie Logan had a good day winning both the comp, 25 net, and the long drive, and John Grogan shone with the putter and also was runner up on 31 net. Dick Crowe also gets a mention for being nearest the pin.

Thirteen teams again participated in the 5 hole end of week competition. This get together is proving very popular and there is room for more entries. $5.00 per player and this includes a sausage sizzle and happy hour.

The team with the best score last week was Railway (J & A Logan, B Bradtke, J Hughes) 13-75, 2nd teams was W.S.C. (N Baker, D Fanning, G Epplestun, F Forsyth) On 13-80, and 3rd place was shared by Stevens Sand and Gravel (V Drogemuller, J & N Stevens, R Galvir) and P.P.C. (M Troth, M Starr, J Grant P McMurtrie) both on 14-35.

Programme for next week includes the CHARITY DAY tomorrow of course, Allan Liebeck is donating a trophy for Sunday’s golf, Wednesday’s Stableford always on the twilight competition should start if someone will volunteer to run it.

A reminder to all veterans that the last meet for the year is scheduled for Thursday 19th at Parkes.

Volunteering to keep order at the Friday night happy hour cum family 5 hole is Steve Grace, Freuia and Virginia are rostered to take the greens and Barry Bradtke and Danny Joyce are on duty at the Sunday Night Meat Market.

LADIES STABLEFORD EVENT

Ladies played a stableford event on Wednesday 28th October with 11 ladies participating.

The winner in A Grade was Jane Ryder with 38 points, Megan Starr was second with 35 points and Lyn Sparkes was third with 34 points.

B Grade winner was Shirley Mawhinney with 33 points, followed by Glenda Cooper with 32 points and Jenny Nealon with 28 points.

A Gabble was recorded by Virginia Drogemuller on 7th and a Birdie to Megan Starr on 8th.

On Sunday 1st November a disappointing field of four players played in the Roma Sinclair Aggregate/ Stroke Event. Because of the heat the competition was reduced to nine holes. Colleen Stevens and Virginia combined for a win with the nett score of 82 and the runners up were Shirley Mawhinney and Phillipa Baker on 101!/2 net.

On the Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays in November lay golfers are playing a nine hole competition, starting with the bottom nine, for Pat Aston Trophy.

The Four Best net Scores recorded will determine the winner. Players are self starting so arrange your own times.

The Lady Golfers are having a Christmas Hamper raffle and all lady golfers are asked to please contribute something to the hamper.
