Good scores in all competitions

05 Feb, 2010 10:15 AM
Even though there are 6 different competitions conducted by the club during Summer the numbers of golfers participating remain small. The course is playing very well although a bit long, the greens have been renovated and every this is good for golf except the hot weather. Even so very good scores are being returned and the handicapper is being kept busy.

Last Wednesday, with 9 players hitting off in the 12 hole competition, all 3 place-getters had adjustment to their handicaps. Mick Nealon was 1st with 42 pts, Bob Bassett was disappointed to be only 2nd on 40 pts, and Geoff Gravenmaker had his usual 39 pts to be 3rd. All the above players plus Brian Brown won balls and there was no nearest the pin.

There were 9 players also last Saturday and here Gravy went one better and scored 40 pts to claim 1st place, Eroll Perkins came 2nd on 36 pts and Peter Harris was 3rd on 34 pts. Balls were allotted to 33 pts and better and once again no one could claim the nearest the pin prize.

Exceptional scores on Sunday when only 8 players T’eed off. Brian Brown led the field with 42 pts, Peter Harris came 2nd on 40 pts, and Geoff Gravenmaker has his usual 39 pts to be 3rd. All the above players won balls and there was no nearest the pin. I think the creek is getting bigger and the tree is getting taller.

The Twilight competition was reasonably supported with 16 rounds being played. Virginia Drogemuller was just good enough to win the chook with 29 net, Jenny Armstrong and Bob Bassett shared 2nd place close behind on 29 ½ net and Peter Harrise had a good score of 31 ½ to be 3rd. Balls went to Peter, Bob, Jenny Armstrong, Jan Myers, and Tracey McSpadden.

Six teams participated in the five holes competition last Friday evening. The winning team consisted of S O’Byrne, V Drogemuller, N Stevens and V Forsyth with 14.19 net. Paul McMurtrie, M Starr, M Troth and John Grant were runners-up on 14.35 and in third place was the team comprising of S Mitton, T Mitton, K Fraser, and D Loveridge w2ith 15.60 net. You do not need a handicap for this competition and play commences from 5pm-5:30 each Friday followed by a sausage sizzle at the end of play which is included in your $5.00.

Social golf last Sunday morning saw 14 players tee off playing the top nine. Craig Smith had a good morning to be the winner with 26 net, Frank McSpadden was runner-up on 28 net, Allan Logan hit a good one to take out the longest drive and Aub shone with the putter. There was no nearest the pin.

O’By is sending out an S.O.S. because the club’s old ute doesn’t want to go anymore.

If anyone has an old ute that they don’t use anymore and it is only gathering dust and rust in the shed. He would be glad to hear from them with a view to negotiation.

On duty at this weeks Sunday Night Meat Market are Barry Bradtke and Freuin Forsyth. And keeping order at to-nights Happy Hour come Family Night is Jenny McSpadden.

Threeputt.
