Last Saturday, 14th November, Al Leibeck provided golfers with something a little different to their usual round of golf.
He provided the trophies for an Irish 4 Ball (6 holes as best ball, 6 holes as added scores and 6 holes as multiply).
The weather was fine and hot, course long and unmowed, and the greens were not raked, but even so 14 golfers enjoyed the experience and good scored were returned.
Jim Wells and Cec Aston played consistent golf and used the multiplying 6 holes well to finish with 76pts, Brown brothers Brian and Laurie came 2nd on 69pts and Jamie Logan and Barry Bradtke were 3rd with 62pts.
The ball competition saw 62 pts better win balls and Geoff Gravenmaker had a lucky drive to be nearest the pin. Thanks once again to donor Al.
On Sunday another trophy was donated, this time by Brian Hughes.
Brian elected to have a par event as the competition but only 5 players turned up to compete.
This was a very poor field for a trophy day but no doubt the hot weather and the harvest played a big part in the result.
Rob Coleman had the best score on the day with +1, Peter Harris came 2nd on square and he also hit the longest drive.
Brian himself was nearest the pin, won a ball and also a big thank you.
The field for the Wednesday’s stableford was also disappointing with only 5 players tee-ing off.
However the weather didn’t stop Jim Wells losing 2 shots when he amassed 41pts, Peter Harris was 2nd on 39pts and Geoff Gravenmaker had an honest score of 36pts to be 3rd.
Balls were won by Jim and Peter and there are no nearest the pin.
The field for the social golfers Sunday morning competition was a little better with 9 hopefuls hitting off to play the top nine.
Carl Brus was the winner on 26 net and C.Smith was runner up also on 26.
Sticky Hocking also had a good day winning the Longest Drive, the putting and the nearest pin.
This competition is on every Sunday and new players are always welcome. Ring 63431634 for details.
The 5 hole end of week competition was well patronized as usual with 12 teams competing.
Winners this week were Steven Sands and Gravel.
[J Stevens, N Stevens, S’O Byrne, & D Galvin] with 12.73, Mawhinney’s [S Mawhinney’s, G Holmes, M Starr, C Johnson] were 2nd on 12.78 and Lachlan Fertilizers [D & C Keogh, C Bembrick, G Simpson] won a mention with 14.60.
Nearest pin was Allan Logan and the gorilla for the day was Barry Bradtke.
Programme for this week includes a stroke round on Saturday 21st, Chris Fletcher to start, a stableford is scheduled for Sunday 22nd, Barry Parker as starter and on Wednesday 25th in the last hole round of this year will be played.
The 12 hole competition will start on the 28th and run until the end of February.
A point score will be conducted throughout this competition with a shirt, courtesy of Bob Bassett, for the winner and adjusted handicaps will apply.
Rostered to rake the greens this weekend are Barry Bradtke and Chris Fletcher, duty members for the Sunday Night Meat Market are Bev and Rob Coleman.
Keeping order at the Friday Night Happy Hour cum Family Night is David Keogh.
