RESULTS FOR GRENFELL “B” Grade vs
THE LACHLAN HOTEL – LOST
Henry Lawson Oval, Grenfell
(Saturday 4th February 2012 @1.30pm)
The regular cricket competition returned on Saturday with Grenfell “B” Grade playing host to The Lachlan Hotel.
A strong batting performance resulted in our highest total of the year with Grenfell all out for 128 runs with only two balls left.
The Grenfell “B” Grade side who played The Lachlan Hotel on Saturday was Craig Smith(c), Mark Horne, Herb Wood, Steve Walker, Mic Garrity, Zachary Starr, Hamish Starr, Phil McSpadden, Josh Edwards, Dustyn Hockings and Alec Walsh.
Mark Horne was hitting the ball sweetly and after opening his innings with an almighty six he was dismissed by a good catch on fifteen. Dustyn Hockings return to the side yielded four runs before being bowled.
Zachary Starr joined Craig at the crease and the pair took to score to fifty nine, before Zachary was caught on twenty runs. Phil McSpadden was caught in front and dismissed LBW for two runs whilst Josh Edwards was caught attempting to take on the bowler early in his innings and was out for two.
Steven Andrew Walker was next to bat with Craig Smith until the captain was bowled for twenty four with Grenfell now 6 down for 85 runs.
Yet the Grenfell tail wagged with Steven Andrew Walker smashing his customary six then a four on his way to sixteen before he too was caught – smashing another ball. Herb Wood added a single before being bowled.
Then the surprise package of the day was in fact two handy innings by both Alec Walsh who grabbed seventeen runs and the mature batting performance by young Hamish Starr who batted out the Grenfell innings and finished on eleven runs not out and Mic Garrity scored three runs before being dismissed LBW.
Grenfell all out for one hundred and twenty eight runs.
On the subject of Mic Garrity when Grenfell were bowling and when he was fielding and after being too slow to get to a legitimate catch off the bowling of Mark Horne and then with the ball heading over the boundary for four runs, the only way to stop it was to dive or he could let it go over the boundary and as a result of his decision, he received his “annual injury” in a big way on Saturday and has therefore joined the elite ranks of “injury prone” cricketers Dustyn Hockings, James Hunt and Carl Brus. Whilst scoring only three runs with the bat for Grenfell, Mic was able to improve on that total by adding five bones to the turf/soil of Henry Lawson Oval.
Grenfell bowled well with Alec Walsh claiming a wicket on only his second delivery back for Grenfell. Herb Wood was the next bowler to strike when he clean bowled The Lachlan Hotel’s opener and we had them on the ropes at two wickets down for twenty three runs.
When Nathan Thorne joined Reid at the crease Grenfell were in a fantastic position to take control of the match, yet from that point on our fielding cannot be explained.
A case of the yips maybe in our first game in three weeks or could it have been the heat? Who knows what it was, but it definitely wasn’t our finest day in the field, with sixteen extras easily added to The Lachlan Hotels total from several misfields, overthrows, dropped catches and you name it and we probably did it.
The positives we can take out of the day are the fact that with the semi finals fast approaching we now have a highly competitive Grenfell “B” grade side, captained by Craig Smith who shouldn’t be taken lightly or underestimated by the opposition, especially when it all comes together and everybody has done their job!
GRENFELL “A” Grade vs MORONGLA
AWAY GAME – Oliver Oval, Cowra
(Saturday 11th February 2012 @1.00pm)
Grenfell captain Phil Simpson is out on Saturday with a shoulder injury he sustained in the final of the T20 Tournament, but he is confident that he can recover in time and be available for next week. However, it is still a formidable line up with Ben Mitton, Henry Hunt, Steven Holmes, Dallas Hazell, Henry Knowles, Terry Knight, Dustyn Hockings, Carl Brus, Alec McSpadden, Zachary Starr and Charlie Keough set to clash with Morongla at Oliver Oval, Cowra on Saturday. Fresh from the bye last weekend, the “A” Grade boys are keen to continue their winning form and are looking forward to getting out there against Morongla in their run home towards the semi final series.
