All CWA Craft Shop volunteers are invited to the Council Chambers on Thursday December 10th at 2.30pm for a thankyou afternoon tea to show the towns appreciation for the volunteer’s efforts in promoting Grenfell and the Shire throughout the year.
The afternoon tea will be combined with an information session where Tourist Officer Auburn Carr will introduce the new Grenfell Tourism Brochure and explain the attractions, facilities and events in the Shire that are of interest to tourists.
Many of the facilities and attractions have recently changed and some of the volunteers have changed too, so the afternoon will serve as a refresher for the more experienced volunteers as well as a vital training afternoon for the newer volunteers.
Even if you have lived in Grenfell for many years, if you are thinking about the town as a resident rather than a tourist you may take things for granted which are of interest to our visitors. Pressed tin verandas and leadlight windows in the Main Street, paintings on the walls inside the IGA, the interior of Murray’s Store and the Henry Lawson Obelisk and gum tree which we often don’t think about, are all worth pointing out to visitors.
The more people working in the Visitor Information Centre that have a similar understanding of Grenfell tourism, the more consistent we can make the message tourists receive about our town. It will also make it easier to talk to the visitors as you will have more things to tell them.
The afternoon will also be an opportunity to give feedback to Auburn on changes you would like, that would make your task of promoting the town easier. This may be a new map of the region showing specific details, or a brochure on a topic you are regularly asked about.
If you are going to attend please ensure your name is on the list in the craft shop so numbers are known for catering purposes.
