I am truly honoured to be taking on the role of President of The Grenfell Henry Lawson Festival of Arts Committee and I am extremely humbled by the support from the community I have received.
This will be the 55th Henry Lawson Festival, one the longest running festivals of its kind in NSW. In 2012 we are celebrating the 55 years of Henry Lawson’s life, this also being the 90th anniversary of his death in 1922. Our Festival is an event where we can celebrate the great contribution Henry Lawson made to Australian folk literature.
Along with many of the attractions held last Festival, this year we will also be running a queen competition, staging a concert and for the first time the Festival will be acknowledging the indigenous culture of our shire.
The committee has decided we will not be charging any admission fee to the Festival itself and there will be no wrist bands given out this year however, entrance fees will still apply to individual displays within in the Festival.
It is hoped that this years’ Henry Lawson Festival will be one of enjoyment for all, one which draws people from wide regions across the country and one which promotes Grenfell to the broader community. We as a committee believe that this year’s Henry Lawson Festival will be one which all the people of the Weddin Shire can be proud.
